Douglas Buchanan Estate Law Attorney

About Douglas M. Buchanan

Douglas M. Buchanan practices estate, elder, corporate and real estate law alongside his paralegal wife Deirdre in San Luis Obispo. Their small, family-run practice provides an informal, yet professional environment for Doug to get to know his clients and build your trust in dealing with sensitive matters such as wills, trusts and health care directives.

Doug received his Juris Doctor degree from Golden State University School of Law in San Francisco in 1986. He was class president and also contributed to the Law Review. After a stint as a Navy JAG (Judge Advocate General Corps), he practiced private law in Southern California as well as North Carolina before settling his family in San Luis Obispo in 1997.

Far from the fast-pace, high-stress life of the civil litigator he once was, Doug focuses on his priorities, planning and decision-making rather than litigation. Doug’s goal is to enhance the well being of his clients and their families now and in the future. With his knowledge and understanding of estate planning, elder, corporate and real estate law, Doug provides you with the necessary information to make informed decisions.

Doug contributes to his community as well. He is active with the Estate Planning Council of San Luis Obispo as well as San Luis Obispo County Senior Services. He is also a member of the Trusts and Estates Section of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association and a volunteer attorney with the SLO Senior Legal Services Project.

You can learn more about Doug’s background, career and philosophy by reading here, The San Luis Obispo Tribune’s feature on him in their "Success 2007" magazine. Or just call Doug and Deirdre for a time to get together to discuss your estate planning or other needs to protect your future.
